Marquee Matchups Investing is a trading method based on guessing the matches of the week and investing on cheap players from those clubs.

The Method

Marquee Matchups are Squad Building Challenges that highlighted the key real-life matches for the coming week or coming UEFA matchday. New regular MMs are released every week, featuring four challenges each. Additionally, two UEFA challenges are also out at specific times. The SBCs usually require players from either of the two teams, from the league, and/or from the nation that the teams play in.

Investing with Marquee Matchups in mind is a great way to make coins. The weekly SBC set creates demand for players that are normally worthless. All you have to do is to guess the matches of the coming week and invest in cheap players from those clubs. As soon as the marquee matchups are announced, you can sell them for a profit.

EA has tried to make it harder for investors to guess the requirements but at least two of the four matches on regular MMs are easy to predict. Two popular derbies are always guaranteed. In order to reduce your risk, you should only pick up players closer to their quick sell price.

Common Mistakes

When using the Marquee Matchup Investing Method, the most common mistakes are the following ones:

Popular Teams
When EA include bigger clubs in Marquee Matchups they tend to make the requirements so broad that the demand caused by the SBC doesn’t match the supply of those players on the market. In other words, don’t rise.

High Value Players
Avoid players that already have a high value. Players that are already inflated tend not to rise much. Their price is already too high.

Late Investing
Most players are already too inflated a couple of hours before Marquee Matchups drop. If you miss the window and player prices are already too high, move on and remember to get in early for next week.

Step by Step

    1. Predict
The first step is to guess the teams that are likely to be included in Marquee Matchups. Keep an eye on the fixture list for the coming week and scour the small leagues for their bigger games.

    1. Buy
Go to the transfer market and buy players from the clubs you have identified for no more than 500 coins above their discard value. We recommend picking up bronze/silver players from smaller teams that are likely to be in MM. This is because they are likely to be close to discard and have a high potential to rise. Like many investments, the sooner you beat the hype, the better. Buying players for a potential matchup two days before MM is released might be too late since many people might have already invested in it by then. Buy early in order to grab those players before other people catch on. You can find a list of Marquee Matchups dates on our dedicated page.

    1. Hold
You will need to hold the players you have bought until their price rises. Usually, they hit their highest when the MM goes out.

  1. Sell
Sell the players if they go up in value. Cash in if you’re making a profit on the players you picked up. If the players you picked up don’t go up in value you have two options: discard them if you need the coins; or hold them in case they rise in value in the future.

Experts Opinion

“It isn’t easy to predict the matches of the week but with practice, you get better and better. Remember to buy as early as possible to maximize your profit margin.”
