Stadium History
Opened in 2007 at Exhibition Place, BMO Field was Canada’s first soccer-specific stadium and was built through a partnership between the three levels of government and MLSE at a cost of C$62.9 million. Toronto FC has played there from the inaugural MLS season, with Canada’s national teams also regular tenants. The stadium was the principal venue of the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
A natural-grass pitch and undersoil heating were installed in 2010. A two-phase expansion in 2014–15 added 8,400 seats, new clubs and suites and a canopy; further changes allowed the Toronto Argonauts to move in for 2016. BMO Field has hosted MLS Cup, the 2016 Grey Cup, FIFA youth tournaments and international rugby, lacrosse and concerts.
