Stadium History

Construction started in October 2001, and the stadium opened on 8 March 2003 as Stadion Wals-Siezenheim with an initial capacity near 18,200 before Red Bull’s 2005 takeover brought the current name and upgrades to international standards. To host UEFA Euro 2008, the arena was expanded in 2006–2007 with a new upper tier to 30,188 capacity, and the expanded venue was presented in a friendly against Arsenal on 25 July 2007 that Salzburg won 1–0; during Euro 2008 it was branded EM-Stadion Wals-Siezenheim and hosted three Group D matches. The stadium initially featured artificial turf from 2005, but it switched to natural grass from summer 2008.

Today, Red Bull Arena is the home of FC Red Bull Salzburg and also hosts FC Liefering matches, with full 30,188 capacity available for European nights and a domestic matchday configuration of 17,218 to enhance atmosphere. The venue underwent business area modernization in 2021 and remains one of Austria’s most modern football grounds, with accessibility, parking, and public transport links highlighted by local tourism information; the club records European match attendances up to 29,520 at the ground.
