Stadium History
Opened in 2005, the Allianz Arena quickly became one of football’s most recognizable stadiums thanks to its striking illuminated façade made of thousands of ETFE panels, which can change color to match the home team. Built to replace Munich’s Olympic Stadium, its construction was driven by the ambitions of FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich, with the design awarded to Herzog & de Meuron.
The stadium originally seated 66,000 but now accommodates up to 75,000 fans for domestic matches, offering excellent views and modern amenities throughout. It features advanced pitch heating, top-tier hospitality, and extensive digital connectivity. Sustainability is a key focus, with energy-efficient lighting and rainwater collection systems.
Since opening, the Allianz Arena has hosted major events including the 2006 World Cup and Champions League finals, and today stands as a symbol of innovation and atmosphere in world football, serving as the proud home of FC Bayern Munich.
